Trying to resurrect an 49″ Samsung CHG90 monitor that shows horizontal lines when cold.
Some owners are using a hair dryer to warm up the monitor
The problem appears to get worse over time, taking it longer for the lines to disappear. It of course does not help when the monitor is in an unheated room in winter.
Replacing the t-con (timing controller?) once seemed to resolve it for a while, but after a couple of years the problem is back again. I bought both mine on eBay, but it appears Aliexpress also carries them.
This seems to be a very common issue with Samsung monitors looking at the threads on various discussion boards.
First challenge is getting into the back of it.
One fix is posted on YouTube that involves removing a faulty capacitor, I considered this, but the last t-con I bought was $22.
Another solution offered that did not work for me was to switch the frequency. This is a challenge to change if all 3 of your presets are at the same frequency and you can’t see the content on the screen. Made sure to set each preset to a different frequency so I could do this without being able to see the settings on the screen.
